Homemade Simpsons Donuts
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of milk
- 2 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 5 tablespoons of butter, melted
- 4 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Directions:
- Warm the milk in a small saucepan until it reaches about 110°F. Stir in the yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, eggs, and melted butter.
- Add the yeast mixture to the bowl and stir to combine.
- Gradually mix in the flour and salt until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a doughnut cutter or two different sized round cutters to cut out the doughnut shapes.
- Place the doughnuts on a floured baking sheet, cover them, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot to 375°F. Fry the doughnuts in batches for about 1-2 minutes per side, until they are golden brown.
- Remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- Once they are cool enough to handle, dust the doughnuts with powdered sugar.
Tips:
- Make sure the oil is at the right temperature before frying to ensure the doughnuts cook evenly.
- You can customize your doughnuts by adding different glazes or toppings like chocolate, sprinkles, or cinnamon sugar.
- These doughnuts are best served fresh and warm, but they can be stored in an airtight container for a day or two.
