Homemade Simpsons Donuts

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 5 tablespoons of butter, melted
  • 4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Directions:

  1. Warm the milk in a small saucepan until it reaches about 110°F. Stir in the yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, eggs, and melted butter.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the bowl and stir to combine.
  4. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until a dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a doughnut cutter or two different sized round cutters to cut out the doughnut shapes.
  8. Place the doughnuts on a floured baking sheet, cover them, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot to 375°F. Fry the doughnuts in batches for about 1-2 minutes per side, until they are golden brown.
  10. Remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  11. Once they are cool enough to handle, dust the doughnuts with powdered sugar.
    Tips:
  • Make sure the oil is at the right temperature before frying to ensure the doughnuts cook evenly.
  • You can customize your doughnuts by adding different glazes or toppings like chocolate, sprinkles, or cinnamon sugar.
  • These doughnuts are best served fresh and warm, but they can be stored in an airtight container for a day or two.
