Buttermilk and Honey Rusks

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup of melted butter

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a baking tray.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the honey, buttermilk, and melted butter.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  5. Transfer the dough to the prepared baking tray and press it down evenly.
  6. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before cutting into desired rusk shapes.
  8. Reduce the oven temperature to 300°F (150°C) and place the rusks back in the oven for another 1-2 hours to dry out completely.
    Tips:
  • For extra sweetness, you can drizzle more honey on top of the rusks before baking.
  • Store the rusks in an airtight container once cooled to keep them fresh and crunchy.
