Homemade Honey Buttermilk Bread
Ingredients:
- 1 cup warm buttermilk
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Directions:
- In a small bowl, combine the warm buttermilk, warm water, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Mix in the honey, melted butter, and salt.
- Gradually add in the flour, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan, cover, and let it rise again for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Let the bread cool before slicing and serving.
Tips:
- Make sure the buttermilk is warm but not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- You can brush the top of the loaf with melted butter after baking for a softer crust.
- Store the bread in an airtight container to keep it fresh longer.
