Southern Chocolate Cobbler

Southern Chocolate Cobbler

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cocoa powder.
  3. Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter in the baking dish.
  6. Slowly pour 1 1/2 cups of hot water over the top of the sugared batter. Do not mix.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is set and edges are slightly browned. The cobbler will have a fudgy layer on the bottom and a cake-like layer on top.
  8. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy!
    Tips:
  • For extra richness, you can add a handful of chocolate chips to the batter before baking.
  • Make sure to use hot water when pouring over the batter to help create the chocolate sauce.
  • This cobbler is best served fresh out of the oven, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and reheated in the microwave.
