Puffy Twist Donut: Easy treats for everyone!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Directions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a donut cutter to cut out the donuts and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully add the donuts to the hot oil, frying in batches for about 1-2 minutes per side until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a wire rack to cool slightly.
- Optional: Dip the warm donuts in a glaze or cinnamon sugar before serving.
Tips:
- Make sure the oil is at the correct temperature before frying the donuts to ensure they cook evenly and turn out light and fluffy.
- You can customize these donuts by adding different flavorings to the dough, such as lemon zest or cinnamon.
- For a shortcut, you can use a biscuit cutter to cut out the donuts if you don’t have a donut cutter.
