Doughnuts
Ingredients:
- 3 cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, melted
- 7 grams of active dry yeast
- 5 tablespoons of granulated sugar
- 1 cup of whole milk, warmed
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
Directions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Whisk in the melted butter, sugar, egg, and salt until well combined.
- Gradually add the flour and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out doughnut shapes using a doughnut cutter or two different sized round cutters.
- Place the doughnuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (180°C). Fry the doughnuts in batches for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain on paper towels. Let them cool slightly before glazing or coating with your favorite toppings.
Tips:
- For an extra fluffy texture, make sure the milk is at the right temperature for the yeast to activate.
- Be patient with the rising time to ensure light and airy doughnuts.
- Experiment with different glazes, toppings, or fillings to customize your doughnuts.
