Doughnuts

Doughnuts

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, melted
  • 7 grams of active dry yeast
  • 5 tablespoons of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of whole milk, warmed
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Whisk in the melted butter, sugar, egg, and salt until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out doughnut shapes using a doughnut cutter or two different sized round cutters.
  6. Place the doughnuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (180°C). Fry the doughnuts in batches for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  8. Remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain on paper towels. Let them cool slightly before glazing or coating with your favorite toppings.
    Tips:
  • For an extra fluffy texture, make sure the milk is at the right temperature for the yeast to activate.
  • Be patient with the rising time to ensure light and airy doughnuts.
  • Experiment with different glazes, toppings, or fillings to customize your doughnuts.
