Baked Paczki (Polish Donuts)
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast (or 1 packet)
- 3/4 cup of warm whole milk (not too hot for yeast)
- 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 2 egg yolks
Directions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for a few minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add the milk mixture, vegetable oil, and egg yolks to the dry ingredients. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into small balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover the dough balls and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Bake the paczki in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Let the paczki cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your homemade Polish donuts!
Tips:
- You can fill the paczki with your favorite jam or custard after they have cooled.
- Dust the paczki with powdered sugar for a sweet finishing touch.
