Homemade Soft Bread Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 300g fresh spinach, rinsed and chopped
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg (for filling)
  • Salt, to taste
  • ½ tsp black pepper, freshly ground
  • 250g ricotta cheese
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 puff pastry sheet
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for sprinkling)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  3. Add the chopped spinach to the skillet and cook until wilted. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the egg, ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper. Stir in the cooked spinach mixture.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface. Cut the pastry into equal squares.
  6. Spoon the spinach and cheese mixture onto each square of puff pastry. Roll up the pastry tightly and place seam side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Brush the tops of the pastry rolls with the egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Tips

  • Feel free to add other ingredients such as sun-dried tomatoes or olives for extra flavor.
  • Make sure to properly drain the cooked spinach to prevent the pastry from becoming soggy.
  • These puff pastry rolls can be made ahead of time and frozen. Just bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
