Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding
Ingredients:
- 4 cups cubed bread
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup (half stick) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 cup raisins
Vanilla Sauce: - 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk and butter until the butter is melted. Pour over the cubed bread in a large bowl and let it sit for 10 minutes.
- In another bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, vanilla, and nutmeg. Pour this mixture over the soaked bread and add the raisins. Stir gently to combine.
- Transfer the bread mixture to the prepared baking dish and bake for 40-50 minutes, or until set and golden brown.
- While the bread pudding is baking, make the vanilla sauce. In a saucepan, melt the butter and sugars together. Stir in the cream and vanilla extract, and let simmer until thickened.
- Once the bread pudding is done, pour the warm vanilla sauce over the top before serving.
Tips:
- For a twist, try adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or a handful of chopped nuts to the bread pudding.
- Leftover bread pudding can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in the microwave for a quick and delicious dessert.
